Week 1: Cutting + Putting Fabrics in Order

This week, we are cutting our fabrics and getting them in order for assembly in the coming weeks.

In this video, I outline tips and tricks for efficient cutting. I also outline how to organize your fabrics for color flow whether you want your quilt to be in Rainbow or Random order. I used Random in both my samples and focused my lights in the center and moved to darker matches around the edges.

Lastly, I have also included a video here on how to use a Rotary Cutter to help you with cutting.

Week 2: Making Your Half Square Triangles

This week, we are making our Half Square Triangles (HSTs). The “instructions” for this week seem quite basic, but the impact of this week for the quilt is powerful - I so LOVE me some HSTs!!!!!!! They provide so much power to any design.

NOTE: The video above is how to do 8-at-a-time, but at the 4:00 minute mark, I explain how to trim your HSTs. That is really the important part of making them.

The pattern measurments leave a little room for you to trim and that is the difference between a square block and a wonky block.

Last week’s video discussed how to match up your sets, so this week is really about sewing! So enjoy the time…grab an audio book or movie and start chain piecing! Personally, I am reading Spark of the Everflame again in the hopes that the last book will be out soon!

Week 4: Layout (Video will Start June 26th)
