Our Story
Hi there! It's Mitzie, and I am so glad you are here! I wear a lot of hats, and I get called a lot of things. My favorites these days are child of God, partner, mom, non-profit consultant, teacher, friend, and, of course, quilt designer!
In the last year, as I have found my “heart style” of quilting, Jittery Wings has grown into a consistent family business - my husband now helps support our work together. We make our home under the big Carolina country sky in our now forever home in Newberry, SC.
In 2016, two years after being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that robbed me of running and pottery, I found quilting and the Modern Quilt Guild in Columbia, SC. My new quilt friends introduced me to SWAPS on Instagram for Christmas. Without realizing it, I designed my first pattern, the Crooked Christmas Tree. I got so many requests for the pattern that I set out to learn how to design in Adobe Illustrator and EQ8. It has been a great hobby for me. In November 2020, the All the Good Quilt Pattern went crazy on IG, and I decided to focus my designs (at least for now) on triangles and controlled improv. My new patterns are now being written for PDF download and print format.
How It All Started
Why Community MATTERS To Me
When I started quilting, I heard a lecture at my first quilt show about how quilting is dying. As the youngest person in the room, I was confused and hurt. Until that moment, most of the quilters I knew were young and learning. Dying? NO! But this group also seemed to care more about perfection than learning.
At Jittery Wings, it will always be about building confidence and learning new skills! Perfection is a great thing to strive for, but seriously, we are here to relax and have fun! We are here to grow together.
