Tips and Tricks
When a quilt top “is” the design instead of lots of different blocks making up the design, I really like wavy lines.
1. They don’t distract from the full design, they simply give texture.
2. They are super easy for a beginner to learn how to hold their body and hands. I do have a book on this for domestic.
3. If you mess up a straight line it draws your eye away. Wavy lines remove that stress and you can just have fun.
4. Try not to let your lines cross over each other and make your wavys long and subtle.
5. Keep them varying distances apart from each other. Again, a predetermined mistake cover.
6. If you do an all over design, I don’t recommend loops or circular designs. They compete with the Squares of the pattern. Your brains needs to find the other pattern.
7. Keep the designs “tight” with small spaces between them so they are more absorbed by the top design. This might make the quilt feel a bit less snuggly. Using a thicker batting and softer, thicker fabric line can help with this.
8. I also think it is fun to change thread color around for a little bit more texture to the quilt.
All this said, you quilt it the way you want - you know my philosophy of You do You! Have fun with it. Enjoy the process of learning and getting in tune with your body and craft.
