All the Good Quilt Along Week 5
Hey Quilty Friends! Guess What!?! YOU MADE IT TO WEEK 5! Don't you feel like a rock star? You totally should. This is the biggest and most important week yet. All that work you did making those flying geese and half square triangles is going to pay off right here, right now!
So, clear off your design wall or a huge place on your floor where NO puppies or kitties can mess up your layout and let's do this thing!
As always, I recommend starting by watching the video...this one is a bit longer and even includes a time lapse, but my goal was to really help you see and visualize how to lay the quilt out. (Totally talking and thinking and working at the same time in this video. hehe)
Tip #1
Keep your your HST, FG and Basic Rectangles in piles by colors and use a tray to keep with you as you work.
Tip #2
Clear off a large space on a wall or the floor where you can really lay the quilt out in full. This is not really a quilt you can piece in rows without seeing the layout before hand.
Tip #3
Keep all your flying geese pointed in the same direction.
Tip #4
At the start of each row put a pin in your block so you know which direction the row should turn.
Tip #5
Use binder clips and clip each row together at the seams you should sew and take the entire row to the sewing machine. Press seams open when you finish.
Tip #6
Take a picture of your layout to see how balanced it feels. You may need to adjust a bit.
Tip #7
As you lay out your FG and Rectangles, overlap them to compensate for the seam allowance that is missing from the HST on the layout. This will keep your blocks in line as you lay them out.
Tip #8
You can put most of the HSTs in to get the movement and then pull some out to put in the FG and rectangle blocks.
THANK YOU
