Charade Quilt Along Making Blocks (Weeks 4-6)

Hey Quilty Friends!

Welcome to Weeks 4-6 of the Charade Quilt Along!

When I laid out the quilt along, I tried to think about how long each of the steps would take and what it means to “clean up” after each one so you can start fresh with the next week. I know that some of my Hive friends are overachievers and I love that. I also know that life can get in the way and make it hard to finish a step, so I try hard to balance that.

I decided to break the sewing of blocks into 3 weeks allowing us to make 40 blocks each week. So, this post and video are designed to help you sew your blocks together. That means that there will not be a new video for the following two weeks…but keep posting as you complete your blocks.

Remember to press your seams open when you finish.

THANKS for being here! Remember to post progress shots on social media using #charadequilt and @jitterywings.

Tips and Tricks

Tip 1: Lay out your sections (1, 2 & 3) from light to dark using the largest block in the section as your guide. OR, you may lay them out in ROY G BIV order, also using the largest block as your guide.

Tip 2: I like to have each section laying next to each other in order so I can basically start selecting blocks from one side of each section stack and working across to the end.

Tip 3: It is okay to sew Piece E in between sections 1 and 2. I do that because it is less seam matching. As long as you have one of each section for every block.

Tip 4: Press your seams open to help with bulk at the end.

Tip 5: Keep your blocks in either light to dark or ROY G BIV order after sewing them.
